Off the plane, exploring the city!

Twelve hours of travel via plane has brought us to the Austrian capitol city of Vienna. From what we have seen so far, it's a beautiful city with a combination of old and new. We are looking forward to more exploration later today. 

Our primary reason for being in Vienna is to adjust to the six hour time difference between Eastern Europe and the States. Margie Baldwin, the superintendent at Southfield Christian who made this trip over the summer, strongly recommended that we spend two days here to acclimate before arriving in Kosovo. Once there, the days will be long with training sessions and visits to various people. Since we are here, we may as well enjoy the city!

Our flight arrived in Vienna at 3:00 local time. After navigating our luggage through the train and metro, and finding our hotel (which no one seemed to have heard of), we decided to venture out into the city for dinner. The clerk at the front desk recommended a local restaurant which we found without much trouble. Each of us decided to give the traditional Viennese dish of Weiner Schnitzel (Vienese Schnitzel), a simple dish of breaded veal. Tasting the local cuisine was a nice treat. We each decided that every time we come back to Vienna we'll try it again...but probably not before. 

Today we will our time exploring the capitol city. Elizabeth Foote, Joe's wife, kindly put together a list of sights for us to visit while we are here.  Transportation has been fun as we have navigated the train system.  Joe and I read the maps while Diane tends to be the cheerleader!

As for the weather...it is cold! Michigan was warmer when we left than we have experienced since we arrived.
